The Winning McCain Strategy

The Winning McCain Strategy

(in spite of his ramblings)

In 10 words, how should we market McCain?

We have all heard the story, about how Clinton won the ‘92’ election by focusing on the economy. Remember, the strategy, “it’s the economy stupid?” It has been said that Clinton opened every speech that election year with how his opponent, Bush Sr., had destroyed the economy; and he ended every speech with how Bush had destroyed the economy.

Now, that’s focus.

I am reminded of this simple marketing strategy every night I see John McCain trying to be all things to all people. How about last week when he was on foreign ground talking about free trade?  Now, there’s a winner. Doesn’t this guy have any marketing expertise on board?

So, what is John McCain’s 10 word strategy? And more important, how do we implement it when John himself is so independent? Who should we aim the message at?

Here’s a hint, the “winning” strategy shouldn’t be aimed at blacks, environmentalists, radical liberals or anyone else that has voted democrat (or for that matter republican) for decades. These loyalists are already in the bag for Obama and McCain respectively. I swear the democrat robots could see a tape of Obama robbing the local convenient store and they’d still vote for him. And yes, McCain has his worshipers too.

Our target market is simply the “undecided.” Reagan won them (i.e., the Reagan dems), Clinton won them; shoot every president wins the undecided. To hook this prize, “moderate- center” group; your candidate has to focus on the characteristics of the market. Marketing gurus say you need to know your market. Here’s one of the most important characteristics of this group and knowing it should help us market too them effectively:

“Undecideds" or “moderates” aren’t as interested in politics as we idealists. I mean; how could anyone possibly have heard Obama and McCain for over a year now, everyday; and not make a decision yet? There is light years difference between the two. In fact, they are practically polar opposites; and still some are still undecided?  No, the undecided are simply tuned out and not interested in taxes, big government, global warming, the war in Iraq or politics.  I think also, they are overwhelmingly pro-American (again the Reagan democrats come to mind).

So, what might interest them? The group itself suggests the strategy. How about if one of the presidential candidates had a mentor for over 20 years and the mentor was an extreme anti-American, racist?  Do you think this fact might perk some interest in the undecided? Do you think the message is simple enough that even a T-shirt could convey its serious nature?

Indeed, if Obama did (and he did) financially and otherwise support the anti-American, racist message of his ex-pastor and church; then McCain’s winning strategy should focus on this powerful truth; and it should be delivered redundantly to just the right people. In short, McCain and / or his supporters need to find innovative ways of getting the incredible anti-American anger of Obama’s past mentor and pastor across to the people that will decide this election.

Here’s another truth. The establishment media makes “explaining away” the 20 year support of this most inconvenient anti-Americanism almost simple. So here we are McCain’s supporters with a winning strategy that probably will not be blessed by McCain or the “drive by” media. It’s already been swept under the rug by both. All Obama had too do was say, I didn’t hear the anti-American rage of my pastor; and now that I have heard it; I’m changing churches.

Folks, we can’t let this slide. Rev Wright is our: “It’s the economy stupid.”

It’s time for us to resurrect Obama’s support for this craziness and keep it out front.  But remember it’s not just the message but it’s the who should hear it that counts. Again, we are aiming Obama’s anti-Americanism past at the “Reagan undecided” possibly a lot of union members. What a message. These people maybe uninterested in economic and foreign policy but they love America.

Here’s the rest of the strategy; and this is incredibly ironic: We can get the “drive bys” to push our message. Again, remembering that this “defeat Obama” strategy or message is so simple it can be written on a T-shirt. (And as luck would have it; we’ve already made that T-shirt up. ------ see below); why not simply make the base message T-shirt the official wardrobe of the Republican National Convention.

Here we have the stage all week; where the world will see what we want them too see. Can you see Nancy Palosi’s face when CBS interviews 15-20 convention goers and they are all wearing precisely the same message and that message focuses on the Anti-Americanism that is so close to Obama? The madder Nancy gets; the better for our message. And the best part; again, it’s the establishment media that gets credit for spreading the word. Don’t you know Nancy will not be the only ones upset; how about the liberal media going nuts covering our story even when they want to decide what’s news?

Now, go to my web site and see the unifying tee shirt that will spread our word like nothing else. And remember who gets this message the most, the extremely pro-American, Reagan Democrats.

 Sincerely,
